KOTIDO — The Church of Uganda has delivered over 93,000 kilograms of food to North Karamoja Diocese as part of an emergency response to worsening hunger in the region.
The consignment was flagged off Tuesday morning, 18th August 2026, in Kotido by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.

The relief drive follows an appeal made in July by the Bishop of North Karamoja Diocese, the Rt Rev Simon Akol Aisu, during the Church of Uganda Board of Trustees meeting at Nabugabo Holiday Centre in Masaka. North Karamoja Diocese covers Kotido, Kaabong, Abim and Karenga districts.
In response, the Church mobilized support from ACT Alliance, Church of Uganda Dioceses, institutions, Christians and other partners.
The items flagged off include 45,775 kgs of posho, 45,775 kgs of beans, 800kg of soya beans and 400kg of silver fish. The soya beans and silver fish are earmarked for malnourished children. More than 2,000 vulnerable households are targeted.
“As a Church, we cannot remain indifferent. We are here today because we believe that Christian compassion must be translated into direct, decisive action,” Archbishop Kaziimba said during the flag-off.
He thanked ACT Alliance and the participating Dioceses of Mukono, Kampala, Kigezi, West Buganda, Namirembe, Muhabura, Central Busoga and Soroti, as well as other contributors.
Irene Anena, Country Coordinator for ACT Alliance, reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment to working with the Church to address humanitarian needs and build community resilience. Representatives from ACT Forum members including the Rural Action Community Based Organisation (RACOBAO) also attended.
The event was attended by local leaders including the area Member of Parliament, the Resident District Commissioner and the Kotido District LC5 Chairperson.
Archbishop Kaziimba directed distributors to ensure fair and transparent delivery with no discrimination based on religion or tribe.
He also called for long-term solutions beyond food aid, including support to farmers, climate-smart agriculture, irrigation, and better preparedness for climate emergencies.
The Archbishop appreciated the Government of Uganda and development partners for their ongoing work in Karamoja and urged continued support to help communities rebuild livelihoods.
According to Rev Agaba Andrew, Director of Household and Community Transformation, the distribution will move to Karamoja Diocese on Wednesday, 19th August 2026.By Meddy Walusimbi Omuyiribi

Me I thank the ACT for that support and aid it has given out and I would like to also advise other organizations to act an example like ACT
